Welcome to Texas American Marketing Association’s 2nd annual Marketing Case Competition! Have you heard the latest BUZZ around campus? We are SO happy to announce that this year’s 2018 event is sponsored by our Chapter’s platinum sponsor, Bumble Bizz.

Bumble launched in 2014 as a dating app, but has grown to become a social networking app that connects people looking for love (Bumble Date), friendship (Bumble BFF), and networking (Bumble Bizz). Bumble believes in the power of One Connection. All it takes is one person to connect you to another person or business to get your foot through the door. With this philosophy in mind, Bumble launched a professional networking vertical, Bizz, to help users make lasting connections.

This event is open to ALL Undergraduate students and will take place October 15-20th. You must form teams of 4 or 5 undergraduate students to compete. At least one team member must be a paid AMA member. Be sure to register ASAP. Spots will run out quickly!

Open registration begins on 10/4 and ends Friday 10/12 at 5 PM.

1. I can’t compete, but I’d like to become a volunteer. How can I sign-up?

Sign up here! Simply place your name where you’d like to arrive and use this as an opportunity to knock out your community service requirement for your org or future AMA officer application.

2. Can I apply to this opportunity with a team even if none of us are Texas AMA paid members?

Yes, you can definitely apply to this opportunity even if you and the team you would like to compete with are not Texas AMA paid members. However, we will add at least 1 Texas AMA paid member to your team in order to fulfill the requirement to compete in this opportunity.

3. If I am entering in/applying to this opportunity individually, do I still need to pay the $40 security deposit (that you will definitely receive back once you compete in the opportunity)?

No, if you are applying to the opportunity as an individual (just you) and you are looking for a team, you are ONLY required to submit a payment to Texas AMA of $10. Once you are added to a team and participate throughout the duration of the event, you will be reimbursed $10.

4. Is there a place to reach out to Texas AMA paid members interested in competing if you are looking for a member to join your team?

Unfortunately, there is not a specific location where you can reach out to other Texas AMA paid members interested in competing, however, in your application you can mention that you are looking for a Texas AMA member and we will do our best to add a Texas AMA individual member looking for a team as a part of your team.

5. If you register for this opportunity, are you required to be present at all the events during the week of the case competition in order to successfully compete?

Yes and no. If you are registered to participate in this opportunity at least ONE member is required to be present at the Monday 10/15 (7 am) Case Kickoff in order to pick up a copy of the case and the ENTIRE TEAM is required to be present on Saturday 10/20 during the case competition event in order to successfully compete. Office Hours on Wednesday 10/17 from 4:30-6 pm are optional, however, they are highly recommended in order to utilize Bumble Bizz representatives as a resource (will be an open Q&A).

6. What is the deadline to register for this opportunity?

7. What is the attire for this event?

The attire for the Case Kickoff and Bumble Bizz Office Hours is comfortable casual, and on the day of the case competition, the attire is Business Casual

8. Is this opportunity a marketing-focused event?

No, it is not. Even though this opportunity highly focuses on a marketing issue, it incorporates various business disciplines from Supply Chain Management and MIS to Finance, Accounting, and Advertising among others. This opportunity has been designed for exploring underclassmen as well as experienced upperclassmen interested in gaining real-world strategic experience.

9. What is the purpose of having a team name?

The purpose of stating a team name on the application is so that we can identify your team easily during the duration of the case competition event. If you are entering individually, please still state a Team Name that you would like for your ideal team, and can, later on, decide if you would like to change your team name once you are officially added to a team

10. What is the approximate time commitment for this entire opportunity?

You really get out how much time you put in. Based on previous case competitions, the approximate time commitment is anywhere from 5-10 hours during the week of the case competition. We truly believe in promoting a culture of quality work over quantity and recommend that your team “divides and conquers” work

11. What is the best format and way to turn in presentations for this event opportunity?

Please turn in your team’s presentation as a PDF file. There is a limit and requirement of one presentation per team which must be submitted to by 11:59 PM on Friday 10/19. By Friday 10/12 at 11:59 PM you and your team will be notified whether you have been accepted to participating in this opportunity as well as provided with further detailed instructions.
